Deco has reportedly said he is unhappy at Chelsea and wants to leave the Premier League club.
The Portugal playmaker moved to Chelsea after the 2008 European Championship and started well, but fell behind midfielders Frank Lampard and Michael Ballack when Luiz Felipe Scolari was replaced as coach by Guus Hiddink.
Deco, who had been linked with a move to Inter Milan last year, played under current Inter coach Jose Mourinho when FC Porto won the 2003 Uefa Cup and the Champions League the following season.
“I’m not happy at Chelsea. I know I have a contract but I want to leave. I would like to have this opportunity,” he said in Tuesday’s edition of Corriere dello Sport. “I’ve worked with Scolari and (Frank) Rijkaard, but the best time of my career was with Mourinho.”
“They were two and a half excellent years in which we won everything we could. We made history because, along with the national championship, we won the Champions League and Uefa Cup.”
Inter won the Serie A title this year, but club officials are unhappy the team failed to progress further in the Champions League. Inter was eliminated in the first knockout round by eventual finalist Manchester United.
“Inter was already a strong team this season and doesn’t necessarily need a lot of players,” Deco said. “With three or four new faces, it will be the strongest again and can retain the title and hopefully the Champions League.”
